On the road to Chamonix, the Glacier des Bossons is on the right and may be approached by a chairlift that in the winter used to take athletes to the top of the 1924 Olympic ski jump.
The nearby peaks visible from the top of the lift are the Aiguille du Midi and also Mont Maudit that is very close to the actual peak of Mont Blanc.
In this painting, the brown area at the bottom is where the glacier and ice-cavern used to be in the 1970s and 1980s. 200 years ago the glacier consisted of large blocks of ice that almost reached the valley floor.
