France, Haute Savoie, Chamonix La Mer de Glace Astonishing Loss of Ice
Astonishing Loss of Ice from the Mer de Glace, Sculptural Watercolour® by Prue Bishop, 60 x 80 x 5 cm G11, 2022. Print.
This Sculptural Watercolour® painting of the famous Mer de Glace or Sea of Ice glacier above Chamonix in the French Alps captures a moment in the remarkable loss of the ice this century that continues to be astonishing. The viewpoint is from next to the glacier, from where we see - in the top right-hand corner - the background silhouette of the mountains.
Upper-left is an impression of a wave in a wild sea, with some ‘spray’ that is actually a dusting of snow covering an otherwise miserably-grey rock-strewn surface of the dying glacier.
Across the centre is the blue of a very large block of ice. But below that is a dark pool of water; the glacier is melting from inside.
Bottom right is the grey of the moraine residue that will soon stretch across the entire valley - as it already does lower down the valley. All aspects of the slow death of this glacier are here in this painting.
This is a Printed product on high quality 224gsm watercolour paper. It is carefully rolled in a robust cardboard tube and mailed to you. You can read more about printing, sizing and mailing here.
