Weissenstein bei Solothurn - Sonnenuntergang - Sculptural Watercolour® by Prue Bishop, 60 x 80 x 8.5 cm S18, 2019.
ORIGINAL Painting.

The Artist explains "The Weissenstein is part of the Jura mountains not far from Basel, Switzerland. It is the last area of beauty in the Jura. This is partly because of the view of Lake Geneva as it curves round in a crescent towards Lausanne. On a fine day one can see even further, but I capture it with a lid of fog above the small town of Solothurn."

This image is an exquisite artwork created using the Sculptural Watercolour® technique, which uniquely combines the fluidity of traditional watercolor with three-dimensional textures to bring the scene to life. The painting captures the serene beauty of Weissenstein, near Solothurn, Switzerland, bathed in the warm, golden hues of sunset. This artwork immerses viewers in a tranquil alpine setting, where nature’s grandeur is vividly portrayed through intricate textures and vibrant colors.

Weissenstein Sunset: A Masterpiece in Sculptural Watercolour®

The focal point of this piece is the breathtaking mountain range, rendered in deep purples and greens with layered sculptural textures that give the peaks a striking sense of depth and realism. The cascading slopes lead into a misty valley, blanketed by a sea of clouds that seem to drift peacefully toward the horizon.

Capturing Nature's Splendor with Depth and Detail

In the foreground, rocky outcrops and clusters of winter foliage are depicted with exquisite detail, emphasizing the rugged beauty of the landscape. The use of natural tones—browns, ochres, and dark greens—enhances the contrast with the soft, glowing pastels of the sky. The transition from the golden yellows of sunset to the cooler blues of twilight creates a dynamic and immersive atmosphere.

The middle ground highlights the interplay between light and shadow across the forested hills, drawing the viewer’s eye toward the meeting of land and sky. The Sculptural Watercolour® technique gives these elements a tangible presence, making the landscape feel alive and ever-changing.

A Celebration of Swiss Landscapes in Art

This painting not only celebrates the natural beauty of Weissenstein at sunset but also serves as a tribute to the artistic possibilities of Sculptural Watercolour®. The precise layering of textures and colors transforms the scene into a multidimensional masterpiece that blurs the line between painting and sculpture.
