Dreiländereck Basel
Dreiländereck Basel, Switzerland - Sculptural Watercolour® by Prue Bishop, 70 x 50 x 6 cm S24, 2012
The Artist explains: "this sculptural feature is situated in the Rhine close to the border of Basel, Switzerland. It is amazing to see that man can create a feature of beauty in a situation which is unattractive. The sky line features the chemical industry and the buildings are 1960s functional. However, this picture meant much to me. My homeland in the United Kingdom had just left the European Union and so the countries I had experienced for most of my life became very important. These were France Germany and Switzerland. Here on this towering rocket-like sculpture, and featured on each fin, are the flags of the above countries. Europe aims high!"
This image is an exquisite artwork created using the Sculptural Watercolour® technique, which uniquely combines the fluidity of traditional watercolor with three-dimensional textures to bring the scene to life. The painting captures the striking Dreiländereck monument in Basel, Switzerland, an iconic landmark symbolizing the meeting point of three countries: Switzerland, Germany, and France.
The focal point of the artwork is the sleek, modern spire of the Dreiländereck monument, which rises gracefully from a circular base adorned with vibrant flowers. The sculptural layering of the watercolor gives the monument a dynamic, almost tangible presence, emphasizing its clean lines and contemporary design. The Swiss flag and neighboring emblematic details are meticulously represented, adding authenticity to the composition.
In the background, the Rhine River flows serenely, framed by a modern bridge and subtle architectural elements that hint at Basel's urban charm. The watercolor gradient of the evening sky, transitioning from deep blues to warm tones, enhances the sense of depth and atmosphere. The precise texturing of the surrounding landscape further amplifies the realism and immersive quality of the scene.
This Sculptural Watercolour® artwork masterfully combines historical symbolism, modern design, and artistic innovation. It celebrates the Dreiländereck as a representation of unity and cultural convergence, brought to life through the intricate interplay of color, texture, and dimension.
