🏰 A Fortress Standing Against Time and Disaster
This Sculptural Watercolour® captures the view of Château de la Bâtiaz overlooking Martigny, Switzerland. The castle rock famously protected part of the old town from complete devastation during the catastrophic 1818 flood, when the Dranse River, blocked by a glacier, unleashed a torrent that flattened villages and much of Martigny.
🌿 A Reflection on Past and Present
The painting contrasts the mist-shrouded expansion of the modern town with the enduring presence of ancient structures. It offers a poignant reminder of resilience against natural disaster—and the ongoing importance of safeguarding our environments in the face of climate change.
🎨 Prue Bishop’s Unique Sculptural Watercolour® Technique
Through layered watercolor and sculptural depth, this piece blurs the line between painting and sculpture, blending history, landscape, and narrative into a richly textured work.
