During the golden age of early Alpine tourism, visitors marveled at the turquoise glow of the ice cavern where the River Arveyron emerged. But as the Glacier des Bois melted completely, the cave disappeared, leaving behind only rock and sediment—its legacy preserved in historic engravings and paintings.
